Sunshine is here!

“Let the sunshine,
Let the sunshine in ..c’mon.”

Oh, apologies lost myself there for a moment. It’s just that this track has been lingering between my lug-holes for quite some time now and like the sun, it’s sitting pretty and going nowhere. Be it May, a bit of freakishly sweltering hot weather and so we have swapped our brollies for sun hats, our wellies for flip flops, and our Mac’s for maxis! We are a nation who loves to dress to the occasion. Yes you’ve seen us, a mere trickle of sunlight through a dank cloud and we be there, stripped down to our short shorts, blinding the young with the light reflecting off our pastey legs. But it’s here, it’s official, and according to my Grandpapa ‘ twas the hottest April since records began don’t you know lassie’  and with May bearing up nicely there really are no excuses, and this allows us to dress... brashly and unashamedly ...for the sunshine!

Here at Dandy Apple Vintage we have been very busy out hunter gathering, foraging and harpooning lots of lovely vintage summery pieces to get you ready for the upcoming months and making it easy for you to shop our collection ......for sun lovers!

Apologies!

Wow, it's been months since we've posted something on here - too long! We've been very busy and have not afforded the time to make blog posts.

Never fear though, as we're going to try and rectify that in the coming weeks and in to the future.

You can always come and join us on Twitter and Facebook as well if you are that way inclined :-)

Mein vater ist dick..

"Mein vater ist dick" ............yes, those may be the only German words I know, but I do know a good German garment when I see one. Ahhh the Dirndl!

For many, the word Dirndl conjures up images of German ladies - rosy cheeked, hair braided, beer jugs in hand, clinking merrily with Lederhosen men......and you would be right. For the Dirndl is the dress of choice for the Oktoberfest goer.

Starting life as a uniform for Austrian servants, the iconic dress survives today as traditional every day wear in some parts of Austria and Bavaria, as well as a costume worn as part of formal occasions and of course, Oktoberfest.

But take a look at the Dirndl and notice it bursting with folk charm, from its embroidered florals, bright colours and midi length, to its handmade assembly. There are ways and means of wearing these Bavarian beauts', without having to go all the way to Munich, plait your bonnet and drink copious amounts of 'Bier' (as much as we'd like to). Here are a few ideas:
  • The neck lines are flattering and great for layers underneath, be it a T-shirt, polo neck jumper, long sleeve top, shirt/blouse or indeed nothing at all.
  • Why not play with length? Altering the length really transforms the dress giving it a modern and youthful look.
  • Wear it with an oversized cardigan, or break it in half with a tighter jumper/cardigan and belt around the waist making the most of its full skirt.

    Play with length like
    Miu Miu.

So there you have it, no excuses, perfect for a folksy look. Get yourself a Dirndl and wear it proud. If you cannot find a suitable occasion in which to wear it then join me, on the dates of Oktoberfest, don your Dirndl and stand up and shout;

"Mein vater ist dick!"
